![]() My name is Robert Dowling, and I am an artist and performer in New York currently working on short-form video, live performance, new media, and photography, all through a creative non-fiction lens. I’m finishing up a run of The Tempest with The Glass Eye in NY and Connecticut, then I’m working on a few small, lovely projects, and getting ready to film! I’m really grateful that, as my friends say, I am always busy. Truly, I have laughed through some of the hardest moments of my life. Some of the best comedy I’ve experienced was in the living room filled with my parents and siblings. What makes you laugh? I will always laugh at a fart/poop joke, because you have to retain some of that inner 7 year old, and I’m a very silly human. I actually wrote a one- person show based on how comedy has saved my life. Since we’re talking comedy, I must mention that Richard Pryor is one of my comedy heroes. I see my arms in those arms, dark and etched with stretchies. She’s talented and wonderful in every way, but on top of that, and it may seem silly to some, I love her arms. Recently, I was talking about Viola Davis. ![]() I think I would grow exponentially if I ever had the chance to work with Suzan Lori-Parks and/or Lynn Nottage on one of their plays. I’m inspired by a lot of the people I get to work with, and plenty I get to watch from afar. What artists and entertainers inspire you? I’m not trying to be cute theater is expensive, and I never have time to stand in a rush line. I’m lucky, because I work with several programs that allow me to do just that.įavorite TV show: Currently, I’m loving “Insecure.”įavorite apps: I just downloaded Depop, I love to DuoLingo at 3am when I’m the only one awake, and TodayTix. I am determined to foster a creative, open, intellectual environment for young people to express themselves. Don’t give me an open space, because I’ll play in it! What’s close to my heart, and was the gateway to acting for me, is that I love working with youth. ![]() I just think the world makes more sense that way. Read on to meet the faces of Comedy Month.
